Wild geese arrive in large flocks during the autumn months and following their migratory instincts, head back north when spring comes. People have made poems and songs about wild geese since ancient times, expressing a general affinity for them. In the Fujiwara Period, the bird was depicted in various decorative patterns and later developed into a family crest. (From 'Family Crests of Japan' ICG Muse, Inc.2001)
